Music is a central part of our meetings. A masonic meeting without music would be like a day at the beach without sunshine...

The organ in the grand temple in Freemason's Hall, Covent Garden, was build by Henry Willis (Himself a mason) in 1933. It is one of the finest organs in the capital. The organ in our own masonic temple in Brighton, while less grand, plays an important part in out meetings.

St. Cecilia Lodge has a fine tradition of music which dates back to the very first meeting of the lodge. The first Master of St. Cecilia was, at the time, Grand Organist. Our current Immediate Past Master was also organist of the lodge before he became master in 2024, continuing the tradition. After an idea from James Childs the lodge has set up the Masonic Organ School. This exists to help and encourage organists in the province of Sussex. In 2026 the school will hold a monthly practical session in the masonic centre, to help organists with playing for masonic meetings and also visit some of the organs in Brighton and the surrounding area. There will also be organ lessons for any freemason who would like to brush up on their organ playing skills, transfer their existing piano playing skills, or even start from scratch.

Any organists or pianists who are interested should email us at:

Saint Cecilia Lodge also publishes musical resources for organists and lodge's which aren't fortunate enough to have an organist. From printed music for lodge and the festive board to recorded music you will find most things you need here.
